Steven Alvarez is a guitarist and composer originally from Miami, Florida. Steven developed an interest in music at the age of seven and has been playing guitar ever since, driven by a strong enthusiasm for learning and creating. His musical foundation was shaped by rock, pop, classical, and metal, and over time he expanded these influences while placing jazz at the forefront of his work. This broad background has informed his approach to both music creation and performance. Since the age of seventeen, Steven has also worked as a professional music educator. He taught at Guitar Center for seven years and has continued teaching privately, sharing his knowledge and experience with students of all levels. Over the years, Steven has studied with many accomplished musicians, including Bill Gerhardt, Mike Holstein, Peter Bernstein, Tom Lippincott, Andres Thielen, and Andy Berman, among others. His interest in jazz began after first hearing Art Farmer and Benny Golson’s track “Killer Joe,” an experience that left a lasting impression on him. Since then, he has pursued jazz through playing with friends and learning a wide range of standards and tunes. *Reservations/advance tickets are recommended for preferred seating but are not required.
