The Bob Songster NC Roots Quartet pays homage to the great lineage of jazz musicians with North Carolina roots - artists whose innovations shaped the sound of American music. This performance features the timeless work of Billy Strayhorn, celebrating his elegant melodies, bittersweet tone and “lush” sense of harmony. Strayhorn's first exposure to the piano and his love of nature can be traced to his summers spent with his grandmother in Hillsboro, NC. "It's almost as if that's where he found himself." -Strayhorn's sister, Georgia Conaway Led by bassist Bob Songster, the quartet features Walter Kross on tenor saxophone, Bill Bares on piano, and Ryan Ptasnik on drums. *Reservations/advance tickets are recommended for preferred seating but are not required.
