Ilhan Saferali Quartet

Ilhan Saferali has swiftly garnered widespread recognition within New York City’s vibrant jazz scene and has caught the attention of numerous jazz greats. Proficient in both trumpet and piano, Ilhan has achieved remarkable success early in his career.

Originally from Vancouver, Canada, Ilhan relocated to New York City to establish himself as an artist and pursue studies at The New School’s prestigious jazz program. His musical style blends classic jazz influences, such as Thelonious Monk and Charlie Parker, with contemporary inspirations like Christian Scott and Immanuel Wilkins. To hone his craft, Ilhan has studied under esteemed jazz legends including Reggie Workman, Buster Williams, Jimmy Owens, Emmet Cohen, and Jean-Michel Pilc. His talent has earned him the recognition of respected names in jazz, leading to opportunities of sharing the stage alongside legends like Kamasi Washington, George Coleman, Johnny O’Neal, and Joe Farnsworth.

Ilhan is also a sought-after session musician, having recorded for hip hop artist A$AP Rocky, alternative rock band The Rare Americans, and two-time JUNO award-winning vocalist Caity Gyorgy. As a performer, Ilhan has performed at stages of world-renowned jazz venues and festivals, including Frankie’s Jazz Club in Vancouver, Nublu, Zinc Bar, and Smalls Jazz Club in New York City, The Jazz Bistro in Toronto, and The Vancouver International Jazz Festival.

Raphael Silverman: Guitar

Raphael is a New York-based guitarist who performs in the bands of two legendary former Art Blakey Jazz Messengers, Philip Harper and Johnny O’Neal. He has shared the stage with Eric Alexander, Johnny O’Neal, Peter Washington, Billy Drummond, Rodney Green, Philip Harper, Akiko Tsuruga, Jerry Weldon, Winard Harper, and others.

His work also extends beyond jazz, including a viral performance with A$AP Rocky and Dave Chappelle at the Blue Note.

Steve LaSpina: Bass

Steve LaSpina is a veteran jazz bassist, composer, and educator with a long career in both the New York jazz scene and international performance. His credits include work with Stan Getz, Benny Carter, Marian McPartland, Toots Thielemans, Phil Woods, Clark Terry, Chet Baker, Pat Martino, and Jim Hall.

LaSpina has appeared on more than 100 recordings as a sideman, released multiple albums as a leader, and spent decades on the faculty at New York University. Steve is now a beloved fixture of the Asheville Jazz scene.

Tosh Kachad: Drums

Tosh Kachad is a New York City-based jazz drummer, composer, and bandleader whose playing is influenced by jazz masters including Max Roach and Elvin Jones.

After moving to New York to study at the Tribeca Jazz Institute, he performed with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Youth Orchestra and became a brand ambassador for Ludwig Drums Australia. He is active throughout the NYC jazz scene as both a bandleader and sideman, with appearances at Smalls Jazz Club, Dizzy’s Club, and The Django.
