Four Giants Trio | Bares, LaSpina & Hall
Join us at Hotel Eve for the Four Giants Trio, led by pianist Dr. Bill Bares alongside bassist Steve LaSpina and drummer Alan Hall, celebrating the music of four giants of the piano trio tradition:
Ahmad Jamal Trio
Oscar Peterson Trio
Erroll Garner Trio
Ramsey Lewis Trio
From Ahmad Jamal’s masterful use of space and dynamics and Oscar Peterson’s extraordinary virtuosity, to Erroll Garner’s unmistakable swing and Ramsey Lewis’ soulful, groove-driven sound, the evening explores the music and influence of four legendary bandleaders.
Dr. Bill Bares is a pianist, composer, educator, and a driving force within Asheville’s jazz community. Director of Jazz Studies at UNC Asheville.
Steve LaSpina is an internationally respected bassist, composer, and educator whose decades-long career includes performances and recordings with artists including Benny Carter, Stan Getz, Marian McPartland, Pat Martino, Toots Thielemans, and Phil Woods.
Alan Hall is an accomplished drummer, composer, and educator whose career has taken him from New York to the San Francisco Bay Area and now Asheville. Known for his musicality, versatility, and deeply responsive approach to the drums, Hall brings decades of experience to the trio.
Together, Bares, LaSpina, and Hall revisit this remarkable lineage not simply as a tribute, but through the musical conversation, improvisation, and interplay that made the piano trio one of jazz’s most enduring forms.
