Alex Beltran

Hailing from Chicago, saxophonist Alex Beltran has been called “a saxophonist of impeccable musicianship” by Chicago Jazz Magazine. A longtime presence on the Chicago jazz scene, Beltran has performed with artists including Jeff Hamilton, Phil Woods, Tim Ries, Ira Sullivan, Luis Bonilla, John Fedchock, Aretha Franklin, and Jeremy Pelt.

Beltran’s group Merge has released two albums of original music, and his debut solo album, Rift, was released on Calligram Records in 2024. He is also a Vandoren Performing Artist.

For this performance, Beltran turns toward the deep grooves of soul jazz, drawing from the music of Jimmy Smith, Hank Mobley, Freddie Roach, Lou Donaldson, and others. Expect a set rooted in groove, blues, and soulful improvisation, led by one of Chicago’s accomplished contemporary saxophonists.
