Joe Enright hosts a monthly Thursday night of intimate, ever-changing night of original music, spotlighting a different featured artist each month. Blending jazz with each artist’s unique voice, the evening weaves original compositions with a curated selection of their personal influences and favorite tunes.

Anchored by one of the region’s most in-demand drummers, Composer’s Room offers a rare glimpse inside the creative process, where collaboration, experimentation, and storytelling take center stage.

Joe Enright welcomes Steve Okonski to The Composer’s Room for an evening of original music, conversation and a closer look inside the creative process.

A classically trained pianist, composer and improviser, Okonski is perhaps best known as a longtime collaborator and keyboardist with acclaimed soul group Durand Jones & The Indications, joining the group for 2019’s American Love Call and continuing through years of recording and international touring. His broader résumé includes work with Say She She, BJ the Chicago Kid and Scott McMicken, among others.

As leader of his own project, Okonski, he has carved out a distinctive musical world rooted in jazz, classical music, soul and spontaneous composition. His trio, featuring Michael Isvara “Ish” Montgomery and Aaron Frazer, released Magnolia in 2023 and Entrance Music in 2025 on Colemine Records. Much of the music is created collectively and recorded live, allowing improvisation to shape the melodies, arrangements and direction of each piece.

Entrance Music brought the trio wider recognition, earning attention from Rolling Stone, BBC, Billboard and KEXPand surpassing 10 million streams. In 2026, the group continues to release new music ahead of another full-length album and its first UK/European tour.
